Scottish Championship  4 x 440 at Goldenacre on 13th June 1963.

Only one hour before the final, the Octavian’s won their heat to set up an interesting final.

John Turnbull ran the first leg in 49.9 secs and handed over to Donald Burr, who maintained the lead with a time of 50.9 secs.

Tommy Tait ran a superb 3rd leg in 49.1 secs to increase the lead to 20 metres and handed over to Bob Hay.

Glasgow University last leg runner was the one and only Ming Campbell who ran a 47.5 secs on the grass track to beat Bob Hay (49.6) by 1.5 metres in a time of 3 mins 19.3 secs-  which was 3 seconds inside the Scottish Native Record.

The Octavian’s team were only 0.2 seconds behind the winners Glasgow University, and received the Silver medal for their efforts.
